Helping the environment with food

About two years ago, I made the switch from eating meat multiple times a day to not eating meat at all. It was a very impulsive decision, but I stuck with it because I had read numerous articles on climate change and felt that I needed to do something. That something was to not eat meat. I thought after a month or so, I would go back to eating meat, however, I got used to life without it. Personally, I went a bit extreme, but there are many ways to help our planet with what you eat! Reducing your intake of meat can cause your carbon footprint (which is the total greenhouse gas emmisions that are caused by a person) to decrease significantly. Limiting red meats and mainly eating poultry is helpful to not only our planet, but to your overall health as well! Watch the following video to learn more about it!

The effects of the fast fashion industry

Picture of clothes on a clothing racks

Forever 21, H&M, Brandy Melville are all amazing stores that sell clothes for a (somewhat) cheap price, right? Unfortunately, they are not amazing, and there is a high cost for these affordable pieces of clothing. These stores are all a part of the fast fashion industry which is damaging our environment. The industry produces approximately 10% of carbon emissions and pollutes oceans with plastic, and those are only some of the problems. Not only is it taking a toll on our planet, but it is hurting garment workers who work tirelessly to create these pieces of clothing for brands. It is hard to turn away from these low prices because sustainable clothing is expensive, a plain sweatshirt can cost you $140. So what can we do? If you have the money: buy from sustainable brands such as Pact, Everlane, Reformation, and many more. If you are on a budget, a good alternative is thrifting. Sadly, during these times, it is difficult to go thrifting as most of us are in quarantine. However, there are online thrift stores, my favorite being ThredUp. There are also apps where you can buy secondhand clothing for a good price. Some of these apps include Poshmark, Mercari, and Depop. It is important to recognize alternatives to fast fashion!
